French- Regency

The French Regency style really interests me because it was such a short period. Generally, we are learning about hundreds of years at a time, but this period was just a short 30 years (1700-1730). During this time, there were three rulers. Louis XIV, King Phillippe d'Orleans (ruled 8 years) and Louis XV. This short period was a transitional style because it transitioned from Regency to Rococo in just 3o years. Although the Regency period was a short period of time, there were a lot of trends and pieces of furniture from this period that effect the world of interior design today and also made a large impact on the Rococo period.

I looked at Flor and Rose's blogs this week. Flor's blog was based on the Neoclassic time period. She discussed the shift in design style, switching to the more symmetrical and pure forms. Also, she mentioned that art and design were controlled/determined by the churches and religion. Rose's blog had very interesting things for the modern applications. She used an example of a hot pink mirror, which she explained as being Baroque style; this is a mirror that I have seen so many times in the past few years, but I had no idea that it was influenced by French design. Also, she mentioned the curvature in chandeliers is influenced by French design, which is also something that I did not realize.
